HISTORY OF THE ROYAL GEORGE HOTEL – WINNIPEG, MANITOBA The Historic Royal George Hotel, 123 Regent Avenue West, was built in 1913 and was originally known as the Royal George Court.
The Hotel was originally three stories tall but in 1920 fire gutted the upper floors and the south section was reduced to two stories. Over the years there have been many repairs and renovations to both the exterior and interior of the Hotel.
Today great rooms, first rate food and live entertainment are all part of the package at the Historic Royal George Hotel. The Hotel is still rocking as demonstrated nightly with live music, the Daytona 500 party in February, Transcona’s Hi Neighbor Festival in June, The Annual Royal George Cup Golf Tournament in July, the Back Alley Bash/Motorcycle Show ‘n Shine in September and numerous birthday, anniversary, and team wind up celebrations all through the year.
The main focus of the Royal George Hotel continues to be the music with live entertainment every night. Monday and Sunday through Wednesday we jam with many professional musicians and basement players gracing our stage. Thursday through Saturday we feature local, national and international recording acts. In the past year we have had the honor to present to the live music lovers of Winnipeg such acts as Chicago’s Lou Pride, Nellie “Tiger” Travis, Sam Cockrell and L’il Ed & the Blues Imperials. Other noted international artists include Sean Kellerman, Dale Willis (Aus), Donny McDougall (The Guess Who) and it is our mandate to continue to offer outstanding live entertainment. |
